Screen shots of Google’s massive global surveillance program in Street View placed on the Anglo-Scots border, for centuries one of the world’s most relaxed and stable act as a reminder that an unexpected consequence of laws to relax freedom of movement within Europe has been to enforce tighter restrictions and surveillance on migration at the edges of the Schengen zone. The implications of freedom of movement within Europe now imply that the border with one nation becomes a border with 25 others, as internal borders are relaxed, external borders are tightened.
This project seeks to illustrate the normally opaque consequences of European integration upon calls for greater regional sovereignty which the campaign for Scottish independence has exposed.Images and text via Alan Knox
